UNIT 9: Articulation in Music.

Articulation

How specific notes or passages are played or sung. 


STACCATO

In staff music staccato is represented by a dot located above or below a note. Staccato is to play a musical note or phrase shorter and louder than its original value. 



LEGATO

Legato: (Italian term) Slur (English term). 

A form of musical articulation where you blend notes together. It is the opposite of staccato. On sheet music “legato” is indicated by a curve above or below a series of notes or by the word itself. 



ACCENT
A symbol placed above or below a note that indicates it is to be played with a specific intensity or character. Accentuate is to give a specific intensity to a particular musical note.

UNIT 1: What is Music?

1.Definition (from dictionary).

"Vocal or instrument sounds (or both) combined in such way as to produce beauty of form, harmony and expression of emotion".

2.Why Music is an ART?

Music is an art because it is each individuals emotions, expressions and creativity. Music comes what it is in the soul.

3.Why Music is a LANGUAGE?

Every culture enjoys music. Music is one thing we can agree upon and understand. Across the world there is an standard musical notation that we understand despite of the country where we live.

4.Why Music is a SCIENCE?

Science teaches us that sound is vibration and the frequency of vibration is what makes different sounds. Music is the study of the sound created by those vibrations. Definitely Music is based on Mathematics.
